As a 9th grade humanities teacher who cares deeply about equity, I chose to focus my research project on how to help all of my students improve their writing. I see writing as a tool for equity. Through research and disciplined classroom observations, I quickly came to realize that strong writers are metacognitive writers; thus my goal became to help my students improve their writing by improving their metacognitive skills.
